Expert asserts the impossibility of recovering bodies from the Titanic submarine wreckage

Strong currents carry body parts far from the submarine wreckage

The implosion of the submarine belonging to the company conducting an expedition to the Titanic claimed the lives of Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman Dawood, British billionaire entrepreneur and explorer Hamish Harding, French diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet, and OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush. However, the United States Coast Guard announced during a press conference on Thursday (22) that there is no clear plan for retrieving the human remains.

During the press conference, Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard stated, “It’s an incredibly unforgiving environment down there on the ocean floor.” This statement underscores the complexity and challenges faced by rescue teams in the face of the adversities encountered at the depths of the ocean.

According to oceanographer David Zee from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), the recovery of the remains of the five passengers aboard the submersible is an impossible task. He explains that due to the immense external pressure, death is instantaneous. Furthermore, the strong currents carry the wreckage and human remains away from the accident site, making any recovery attempt even more difficult.

Despite the discovery of the submarine wreckage, including its tail cone, located approximately 1,600 feet from the Titanic’s bow, Rear Admiral John Mauger confirmed that finding the human remains is extremely challenging. The density of the wreckage may cause it to remain in place for some time; however, due to the action of the currents, it is likely that the human remains have been carried far away.

This tragedy highlights the difficulties faced in rescue operations at great depths of the sea, where environmental conditions are extreme. The implosion of the submarine and the loss of the five crew members serve as a reminder of the risks involved in such expeditions and the need to prioritize safety at all stages.

Unfortunately, in this case, the recovery of the human remains becomes practically impossible due to the adverse circumstances. The deep sea holds its secrets and maintains its unwavering strength, making this task a true testament to the impossibility in the face of the merciless nature of the ocean’s depths.
